Chapter 4
Oh, Holy Night
Luce
Santino donned his suit jacket and tied his tie with swift and calculated movements, while he watched me get dressed. A tiny smirk played on his lips. Of course, he was gloating. No matter what he did or didnât do, or how mad I was at him, he could always make me forget about everything with a single heated touch.
âDid I hurt you?â He stuffed his hands in the pockets of his trousers and cocked his head to search my gaze. âYou have welts on your ass.â
âOh.â I turned around to see my reflection in the mirror. The prints looked more painful than they really were. âItâs fine,â I mumbled.
I wasnât going to tell him how much the smarting on my ass turned me on. Though I didnât think he was looking for praise. He seemed truly concerned about my well-being.
âLetâs go home so I can take care of it.â
âSantino.â I ran a hand through my hair in frustration. âSex has never been the problem between us. And you know that. So why donât you tell me why youâre here. Or better yet, why did you think I needed to be punished for leaving the penthouse? Iâm with you because I want to be with you. Iâm not your hostage. Or has my status changed?â
âYouâre not my prisoner, Red.â He released a breath. âI came here to talk to you about that. But then I saw you in that bodysuit.â He shook his head, as if trying not to think about what we just did.
I had to agree with him. I wouldnât mind another round. But if he was here because he was ready to talk about us, Iâd rather do that.
âLetâs talk in the car.â He gestured toward the door.
âOkay. But I need to pay for this first.â I pursed my lips to hide a smile while I showed him the fairly worn bodysuit. âYou ruined it.â
âItâs perfectly fine.â He took it from me and gave it a quick shake to fluff up the fabric.
He escorted me downstairs, where the sales assistant waited patiently for us, even though the floor was crowded with customers doing some last-minute shopping. âMrs. Buratti, did you find everything you needed?â she asked.
âYes. Thank you.â My cheeks burned hot. I couldnât tell if her soft tone meant she knew Santino had found me in the fitting room and most definitely gave me everything I needed. âWeâre ready to check out.â I took the garment from Santino and slid it across the counter.
Of course, she didnât notice me as she kept her gaze fixed on Santino. Yeah, he was out of place surrounded by Christmas ornaments and home goods. Santinoâs natural habitat was a boardroom filled with antiques and old booksâor our bedroom suite. His intense gaze was both terrifying and mesmerizing. I knew from experience that his magnetic presence wasnât easy to get used to. By the daze in her eyes, it seemed, Paula was not immune to Santinoâs charm.
âWeâre in a hurry.
